Paper and Packaging Education
PCA supports growth and innovation within our industry by supporting programs at various universities.
PCA recently donated $1.6 million to the University of Maine in Orono, Maine. PCA’s donation will benefit the university’s Process Development Center (PDC). The PDC, a unique, open-access research facility, offers technical services and resources both in traditional pulp and paper and in emerging process technologies and material science. Funds will provide infrastructure improvements and new equipment to help expand their capabilities and foster progress in renewable packaging. PCA is a long-time supporter of the University of Maine through the UMaine Pulp and Paper Foundation. The foundation supports aspiring engineers who are interested in pursuing careers in the paper industry.

Each year, our containerboard mill in Counce, Tennessee, donates to the Pulp and Paper Advisory Board at North Carolina State’s College of Natural Resources. The donations fund programming, renovations to the study spaces and laboratories, and scholarships to pay for tuition and books. The mill works with six local high schools to promote the Pulp and Paper Advisory Board scholarship opportunities and to share information with students about how to apply.
