PCA’s full-line plant in Chicago recently donated sheets of corrugated board to the park district of a nearby suburb, Glen Ellyn, for use in their annual Lake Ellyn Cardboard Boat Regatta. The event is held on the Saturday before the Fourth of July and is open to the public.
Participants must use only the number of corrugated sheets provided to them, and high-tech glue is not allowed. Last year, 35 handmade corrugated boats raced around the course on Lake Ellyn. “Brach the Brachiosaurus” was a fan favorite and winner of the Lake Ellyn Queen Award.
According to the Production Manager at PCA’s Chicago plant, “When the Fibre Box Association let us know of this need, we were more than willing to help with the event by donating over 800 sheets of corrugated board.”
This year’s regatta will be held on Saturday, July 1. To learn more about the Lake Ellyn Cardboard Regatta, please visit the park district’s website at www.glenellyn4thofjuly.com/BoatRegattaPicnic.html.
