Project
Compassion - Reaching out to help others!
September 7, 2007
PCA has always taken an active role in the communities in which
it operates and continues to promote good corporate citizenship
by contributing our energies and resources to help our local communities.
Recently one of our plants did not wait for a request, but saw
a need and reached out to help local artists who were helping
others! It was brought to the attention of the General Manager
of PCA's Salt Lake City, UT facilities that a local Utah artist,
Kaziah Hancock, was spearheading Project Compassion to preserve
the memories of fallen troops in Iraq. The project began in 2002
with Utah's first fallen soldier, and has extended to six local
artists who utilize their combined talents to paint gallery-quality
portraits of service men and women who would not be returning
home. These portraits are then sent to the soldiers' families
free of cost. Project Compassion is a way to say "Thank you"
to those American service men and women who have given the ultimate
sacrifice for America - and for the loved ones they have left
behind.
PCA's Salt Lake City plant contacted Ms. Hancock and offered to
provide her boxes and packaging supplies to ship the works of
art to the families of these fallen heroes. Ironically, the delivery
of the supplies was delayed because a war against wild fires in
Utah had cut off access to her and they had to wait for the roads
to re-open. When she received the delivery from a local sales
rep, she was very appreciative because she had no idea that a
big company like PCA even knew about the work that she and her
other artists had undertaken.
PCA's Mission Statement is built around the philosophy of the
Golden Rule. We intend to succeed through our people whose behavior
will be judged against this ultimate standard. This is why our
employees continue to do the right thing because it the right
thing to do!
