Corporation of America is at the forefront of the industry's
recycling efforts. For us, "reduce", "reuse"
and "recycle" are not just words, they are at
the center of our commitment to a better environment - for
our customers, our communities and for ourselves.
"...committed to a better environment"
All of our facilities actively participate in waste recycling
efforts. Recycled waste paper is used to supplement fiber supply
and paper production at our paper mills. During 2007, our containerboard
mills consumed approximately 606,000 tons of recycled fiber,
of which about 205,000 tons was generated from our own box plants,
resulting in net recycled consumption of 401,000 tons, or 16%
of the total fiber in the conatinerboard produced at PCA.
PCA is committed to responsible environmental protection
and practices. We continue to employ best management practices
to further reduce environmental risks. We are concerned
about our forests and want to protect them for the future
generations. We are, therefore, committed to the Sustainable
Forestry Initiative (SFI)SM program which is
a comprehensive system of principles, objectives and performance
measures that integrates the reforestation, managing, growing,
nurturing, and harvesting of trees for useful products with
the conservation of soil, air and water quality, wildlife
and fish habitat, and aesthetics.
PCA recognizes that protecting the environment in the course
of its business activities is of the highest priority. Virtually
all of our activities are regulated by environmental laws.
We have instituted a highly successful pollution prevention
program to reduce industrial waste through process changes,
recycling, and the replacement of hazardous raw materials.
Our employees are encouraged to suggest ways to eliminate
waste and emissions from our processes. All waste products
and hazardous materials are accumulated, handled, and disposed
of as required by applicable Federal and State regulations.
