This year PCA’s plant in Harrisonburg, Virginia, teamed up with a local folding carton company to develop a community college course for flatbed die cutter and specialty folder-gluer operators. Spearheaded by Harrisonburg’s General Manager and the CEO of Carded Graphics, an operator training course will be implemented at Blue Ridge Community College later this year. This course falls within Blue Ridge College’s initiative to create more skill-based courses and majors in order to address a skilled workforce deficit.
According to the General Manager at Harrisonburg: “The idea was hatched when Carded Graphics’ CEO and I were contacting each other to find viable salaried and hourly candidates. It is difficult to find excellent people with either folder-gluer or flatbed die cutter experience. This is simply a good way to give back to the community and to also be a good corporate citizen at the same time.”
