Tomahawk Mill Supports PCA Families and Community
October 10, 2013
Every year, team members from PCA’s containerboard mill in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, attend the local Lincoln County Fair and participate in an event that supports an area charitable organization.
The mill sponsors the purchase of livestock that children of PCA employees have raised for 4-H and FFA clubs. On average, the typical purchase of a market animal nets the children $2,000 – $3,000, which helps pay for college and offset the cost of feeding and caring for the animal over the previous year.
Once the animals are purchased, the mill assembles baskets containing over 40 pounds of various beef and pork products. An auction is then held to raise funds for the Tomahawk STAR Foundation, which supports the needs of local youth programs. From providing new baseball equipment to funding mission trips, the STAR Foundation’s mission is “to act as a community chest for businesses and individuals by making charitable grants to community groups, clubs and non-profit organizations that contribute to the health and vitality of the area.” Through this year’s auction, PCA raised close to $1,300 for the STAR Foundation.
